The recently announced Talaria MX5 Pro is Talaria's latest entry into the high-performance trail bike space. Sporting a larger 72 V 40 Ah battery, larger MX-style brake calipers, and the potential for speeds exceeding 50 mph, the MX5 Pro is proving to be a powerful electric dirt bike.

Redesigned from the ground up, the MX5 Pro is Talaria's answer to the request of their devoted e-bike riders and vendors. The 72 V 40 Ah battery is a forty-five percent increase over the MX4, bringing an increase to the bike's power and range. Similarly, the larger MX-style brake calipers have larger brake pads than those found on the MX4. The bike chain is also upgraded with the MX5 using a heavy-duty 428, which Talarias claims is twice as strong as the 420 chain found on the MX4. Additional changes include three power levels instead of two, a thicker seat with improved padding, and a refreshed front and rear suspension system.

Another major upgrade to the MX5 Pro is a more efficient and reliable IPM motor. The MX5 IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) motor addresses the issues found in previous iterations by removing the Hall sensors that were coming loose inside the motor, causing it to fail. The new motor uses a magnetic encoder, which eliminates the need for Hall sensors and increases the efficiency and reliability of the motor.

Regarding speed, Talaria must disclose that the MX5 Pro is factory-limited to speeds of 20 to 25 MPH. The speed and power limitations are in place to comply with federal, state, and local laws, with the buyer taking full responsibility for any speed modifications made to the bike. That said, the product listing mentions this fact: “If you remove the limiter, you do it at your own risk (we do not recommend it), and the bike will go over 50 MPH.”

Luna Cycle offers introductory pricing on the Talaria MX5 Pro, which starts at $4,700 and includes free shipping to the continental US and Hawaii. Additional information and buying options can be found at Luna Cycle.
