Two new features could be on the way to the Google Health Connect app. The code behind a recent version of the Android app points to upcoming tools to help users track their usage of some substances. While the basic functionality is sketched out, it remains to be seen when these features could be released.

Google Health Connect users could soon be able to track their intake of nicotine and alcohol. The Health Connect app allows Android users to view data collected from various sources, including connected smartwatches or smart scales, and integrated apps. Users can already track their activity, nutrition, sleep quality and health metrics like heart rate through the app.

In a recent report, Android Authority revealed that nicotine and alcohol consumption tracking has been found in a Health Connect APK. The code indicates that users will be able to track their nicotine intake, logged against a particular type of cigarette or vape. Similarly, a less developed alcohol tracking tool has been spotted in the app’s code. These could be useful for those who want to monitor their progress on their journey to quit smoking or to reduce their usage of these substances.

Android Authority suggests that this nicotine and alcohol consumption data will be collected via third-party apps, which will integrate with Health Connect. It remains to be seen when Google will release these new data tracking features to Health Connect app users.
