Deal | This 4X grand-strategy city-builder, loved by 73% of players, is now 80% off on Steam

Driftland: The Magic Revival is down to $3.99 on Steam. It's an 80% cut from $19.99, and the promotion runs until 11 September. That is not its all-time low — the game has previously gone as low as $1.19 — but it is the cheapest it has been in some time, and the current price is still well below the usual discount floor.
Released in 2019 by Polish studio Star Drifters, Driftland is genuinely difficult to categorize, which is a big part of its appeal. Its top Steam tags read RTS, 4X, god game and grand strategy in that order. Players take the role of a Mage Overlord on a shattered planet whose fragments float in the sky — all of it is held aloft by ancient magic. The central mechanic is moving those islands: dragging them into range, bridging them, terraforming their surfaces to suit your race, or destroying them outright to cut an enemy off.
Unit control is pretty indirect. Rather than micromanaging armies, players have to set broad goals and let warriors, archers and mages act on them. Units gain names, experience and skills over time. Flying beasts including dragons can be tamed and ridden. Worlds are procedurally generated, and victory can come through extermination, domination or expansion.
Reception has been solid (not spectacular): Metacritic is sitting at 76, and Steam users rate it "Mostly Positive" at 73% of 1,437 reviews. Critics like the island-shifting concept and relaxed pace — but it does mention that the game spreads itself across several subgenres without fully committing to any.
Requirements-wise, you need a GeForce 770 or Radeon 7970 minimum, 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of storage, with a GTX 1060 recommended. There is a macOS build, 40 achievements, Steam Workshop support with a level editor, and a free soundtrack.
