Motorola is now rolling out its Pie update to users of the Moto Z3 Play, including those located in the US. In addition, some Moto Z2 Force owners have reported an OTA for the same upgrade. These devices are now 1 and 2 years old respectively.

Android 9.0 (or Pie) is about to become the second-latest major update to the popular mobile OS. Nevertheless, there are still many slightly older phones that do not yet run it. However, there are 2 such devices that are now off that list. They are Motorola's Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z3 Play.

Both phones are still relatively up-to-date phones, as they were released in 2017 and 2018 respectively. However, despite this, they were both on Android 8.x (Oreo) until now. Users of the Moto Z3 Play, including those in the US, have reportedly received notifications to download a Pie update via OTA. This is also true of the  Z2 Force; however, in its case, there are fewer reported instances which are all confined to the Brazilian market so far.

However, there is no reason why those who own these phones in other countries shouldn't now keep an eye out for their own OTAs. The resulting updates contain the reasonably up-to-date May 2019 security patch level. Motorola devices also have the advantage of running a version of Android that is nearly stock (or as Google intended); therefore, the Z2 Force and Z3 Play will gain what might be the most Pixel-like official version of Pie around.
