Another Motorola G series phone, the G96, seems to be in the works along with the Moto G86 expected in June. While there is no official information on either of the phones, a new leak hints at what to expect from the new top of the line Moto G numbered series phone. It is said to come in four color options, all of which are vegan leather, and seemingly a design that is more reminiscent of the Moto G85 (buy international version on Amazon), rather than the rumored Moto G86.
The leak comes from Android Headlines containing images of the rumored Moto G96, hinting at the design and color options. It seems to have a curved display with a hole-punch for the selfie camera. The Moto G96 is said to come with a dual rear camera setup. Notably, the Moto G95 and the Moto G85 also had curved display but the recent leaks for the Moto G86 suggest that it will feature a flat display for a boxier design.
As for the color options, the report states there will be a Cattleya Orchid (lavender), Dresden Blue, Greener Pastures, and Ashleigh Blue. These will be vegan leather options for a more interesting look and feel. The display for the Moto G96 will be a 6.67-inch pOLED curved panel with 144 Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color, and Water Touch 2.0 included.
The leak also hints at some of the internal specifications and the Moto G96 5G is said to come with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. All this will be backed by a 5,500 mAh battery. It should be noted that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 was recently announced and it is unclear why the Moto G96 is said to feature an older SoC. The Moto G95 is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 so the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 will still be a welcome upgrade.
Furthermore, the Moto G96 is also said to come with a 50-megapixel Sony LUTIS 700C primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary macro camera. At the front, it may have a 32-megapixel selfie shooter.
Motorola’s G series numbered phones are typically reserved for markets outside the US and do not officially come to the US. Therefore, it is unlikely the Moto G96 5G will officially launch for US-based shoppers but notably, Motorola started selling the Moto G100 in the US in 2021 after introducing it earlier in the year for European and Latin American markets.
