The RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU discovered in the PCI Device ID database that we were reporting on a few days ago does not seem to be the only laptop mode planned for an early 2022 release. The same Faintsnow who added the device ID and die name for the RTX 3080 Ti mobile version also added a 24A0 ID linked to a GA104 (GN20-E6) die, later specifying that this would be known as the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU.
No specs for the Ti upgrade of the RTX 3070 for now, but, since it is based on the same die as the RTX 3080 non-Ti, we could see a bump from 5120 to 6144 CUDA cores and maybe some more GDDR6 RAM. Nvidia might as well add a Ti version for the RTX 3060 laptop model, just to have all its bases covered. Videocardz is suggesting that the introduction of such Ti upgrades could be a response to Intel’s Arc Alchemist mobile GPUs coming in Q1 2022.
While AMD also has its Radeon RX 6800M GPUs out already, laptop OEMs do not seem to offer too many models featuring this option because of the limited supply coming from Team Red. However, Intel is known for the more aggressive marketing strategies that rival Nvidia’s, so Team Green is probably upping the ante here to secure continued dominance for next year.
