Minix launches new AMD mini PC with compact design and 8TB storage support

Minix has introduced a new version of the NR660 mini PC, which has LP as a suffix on its model. Compared to the non-LP version, it has soldered RAM, which might seem like a good idea considering the ongoing memory shortage, but this makes the RAM non-upgradable.
The good part is that the mini PC ships with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which is good enough for most day-to-day tasks. As for the storage, Minix is offering the option to equip the system with up to 8TB of PCIe 4.0 storage through the two M.2 slots, but it ships with a 512GB PCIe 3.0 SSD (1TB TeamGroup MP44L curr. $166.99 on Amazon).
Another notable change is the selection of ports. The NR660 LP doesn't have a USB4 port, which is a downgrade compared to the non-LP version, which allows users to pair high-speed, high-performance accessories, like an eGPU, with the mini PC. Of course, the port configuration is still decent, especially for those users who might not require a USB4 port. It has these ports:
- 1x USB 2.0 Type-A
- 3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
- 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
- 2x 1G Ethernet
- 1x 3.5 mm audio
Under the hood, the NR660 LP is powered by the same AMD processor that powers the non-LP version. More specifically, the mini PC packs the Ryzen 5 6600H, a Zen 3+ CPU with the Radeon 660M iGPU. While it's an aging CPU, the processor can still smoothly handle most tasks, and the integrated GPU is good for light gaming as well.
Compact design, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, and triple display output support are among the other notable features of the Minix NR660 LP. While the mini PC is listed on the official store, it's not available to purchase yet. The listing shows a $515 price tag, which could be a placeholder. For reference, the non-LP version with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD is available at $499 on the official store.
