Minisforum is a rather well-known manufacturer of mini PCs, but the company is now selling a new docking station called the TB4-01. It’s already available on Amazon for a regular MSRP of $249, but a $50 launch discount can be activated manually. The dock is sold by Minisforum but shipped by Amazon, deliveries are currently scheduled for mid-April.
As the name already implies, the Minisforum TB4-01 utilizes Thunderbolt 4. This is not the latest version of the versatile interface, but Thunderbolt 5 isn’t widely used just yet. Either way, a compatible device can be connected via USB-C, and the docking station does support USB PD and can provide up to 85 watts to a laptop or mini PC, and an additional 15 and 20 watts to smaller devices such as smartphones or headphones. The Thunderbolt 4 port has a bandwidth of 40Gbit/s, which should result in fast transfer speeds.
In total, the Minisforum dock offers 12 ports. On the back, there is a single HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4, along with two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, an Ethernet port with 2.5 Gbit/s and a full-size SD card reader. On the front, there's a microSD slot, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, as well as a USB Type-C and USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also located on the front, as is the power button.
Power is supplied via a barrel connector with 21 volts. According to the manufacturer, it's possible to connect up to three monitors that max out at 4K and 120Hz. Last but not least, the TB4-01 measures 5.8 x 3.4 x 1.6 inches and weighs 1.26 lbs, but the 180W power adapter adds another 1.05 lbs to the overall weight.
