Windows Central has shared expectations for a second-generation Surface Laptop Go, purportedly called the Surface Laptop Go 2. To recap, the original Surface Laptop Go arrived in October 2020 with an Intel Core i5-1035G1, plus a 12.4-inch PixelSense display (1,534 x 1,024 pixels) and a full-size keyboard that lacks backlighting.
Reportedly, Microsoft will release the Surface Laptop Go 2 with an 11th Gen Core i5 processor, not one from the newer 12th Gen family. Unless Microsoft partners with Intel to create a custom processor, it would seem likely that the Surface Laptop Go 2 will arrive with the Core i5-1130G7 or the Core i5-1135G7. According to our database, the Core i5-1130G7 would only deliver marginal performance improvements over the Core i5-1035G1. By contrast, the Core i5-1135G7 should provide over a 20% uplift from the Core i5-1035G1.
Unfortunately, we have not tested the Core i5-1235U yet, but its 10 cores should deliver improved multi-core performance compared to the Core i5-1135G7. Separately, Windows Central states that the Surface Laptop Go 2 will be available from 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, mirroring its predecessor. Likewise, the website is unsure if the second-generation model will feature a backlit keyboard. Apparently, Microsoft will sell a new 'Sage' colourway alongside the existing Ice Blue, Platinum and Sandstone finishes in which it offers the current Surface Laptop Go 2. Predictably, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will retain its predecessor's design, as the Surface Laptop 4 and Surface Go 3 did.
Windows Central adds that Microsoft plans to launch the Surface Laptop Go 2 soon, likely during a spring hardware refresh. However, the device will not begin shipping until June, which would suggest a late May announcement. Reputedly, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will match its predecessor's consumer pricing, which started at US$549, rose to US$699 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and peaked at US$899 for the same amount of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Windows Central has not mentioned business pricing, although it insists that Microsoft will sell the Surface Laptop Go 2 for Business as well.
