Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 to launch within the next few days in four colours
Microsoft has introduced the Surface Laptop Go 2 through its Cafe Naver channel in South Korea. While referred to as a leak by The Verge, the listing appears to have been posted by an official South Korean subsidiary. Regardless, the listing confirms practically all Surface Laptop Go 2 specifications, including an apparent release date.
As expected, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is a minor improvement on the Surface Laptop Go. According to our database, the Core i5-1135G7 in the Surface Laptop Go 2 should outperform its predecessor's Core i5-1035G1 by 23% in CPU and GPU related tasks. Sadly, Microsoft has decided against upgrading the Surface Laptop Go to current-generation silicon like the Core i5-1235U, which contains 10 cores while retaining a 15 W TDP.
Separately, the Surface Laptop Go 2 retains its predecessor's 12.4-inch PixelSense display, which outputs at 1,536 x 1,024 pixels in a 3:2 aspect ratio. Additionally, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will be available with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, albeit at least for the consumer-facing model. Likewise, the Surface Laptop Go 2 has the same port layout as the Surface Laptop Go; there is no indication of keyboard backlighting on the new model, either.
Purportedly, Microsoft will sell the Surface Laptop Go 2 from around US$650. Based on the Cafe Naver listing, Microsoft could begin accepting pre-orders as soon as June 2. At launch, Microsoft will offer the Surface Laptop Go 2 in two colours. Incidentally, the company has created colour-matching leather sleeves, which Microsoft will bundle for free with pre-orders in South Korea.
