Metro Redux gets free 4K and 120fps upgrade on consoles

The Moscow underground is getting a fresh coat of radioactive dust. Developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have released has released a free next-generation upgrade for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, giving the two post-apocalyptic shooters a technical overhaul more than a decade after their Redux editions first appeared.
Available since October 29 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the update offers native 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at up to 120fps on supported hardware. It also improves textures, lighting, shadows, animations and environmental detail, while keeping the games' famously oppressive atmosphere intact.
There are platform-specific extras, too. PS5 Pro owners get PSSR upscaling, while Xbox players benefit from Play Anywhere support, Impulse Trigger feedback and optimizations for the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. PC players received their update on October 22, adding support for DLSS, spatial audio and uncapped frame rates.
There is a catch, however. According to the publisher Deep Silver's official patch notes, existing save files from the Microsoft Store version will not transfer to the upgrade. Players can start a new game or select any chapter, since all chapters are unlocked, but doing the latter means accepting a default equipment loadout rather than continuing with their previous inventory.
The refresh arrives ahead of Metro 2039, scheduled for February 4, 2027, giving newcomers and returning players a reason to revisit Artyom's earlier adventures. The tunnels may be prettier and the frame rates higher, just don’t forget to check your air filter.
