With our hectic schedules and battery-hungry apps, being able to recharge one’s phone at a moment’s notice is all the more essential for ordinary users. Smartphone maker Meizu released its latest fast-charging solution at MWC yesterday, describing the improvement as a major breakthrough in fast charging technology.
Known as Super mCharge, the 11V/5A charging connector can supply up to 55W of power for a full charge time of just 20 minutes, minimizing the amount of time users need to spend tethered to a socket or power bank.
Super mCharge uses something called the Charge Pump Principle to apply only two groups of conversion circuits to produce half the voltage, increasing charging efficiency by anywhere between 9 and 98 percent. In addition, this charging solution also reins in battery temperature spikes, reaching only around 102 degrees Fahrenheit, which is both safer for the user and better for ensuring battery longevity.
Safety is one of the areas that Meizu has focused on the most while other smartphone makers have struggled with dangerously high battery heat. Meizu says that it has taken the necessary precautions to ensure that Super mCharge is safe and durable. Thorough testing on a 3000mAh battery made by ATL showed that it retained over 80% capacity after 800 charge and discharge cycles for a service life of more than two years, bearing more than four times the current of an ordinary battery.
