Memory, carrier, camera features, and processing power all rank highly when considering a new smartphone. Interestingly, carrier options are a priority for ages 35 to 55 while ages 18 to 24 turn towards camera features and picture quality.

MediaTek SoCs power a very wide range of smartphones in the budget to mainstream range. In order to create chips that better cater to real-world scenarios, however, the manufacturer needs to find out what users actually desire the most from their phones. A recent survey sought out to understand exactly that and the results aren't too surprising.

According to the study, respondents said battery life was the most important feature across all age groups with camera features coming in second. Selfies, portrait mode, photo editing, and "beautification" mode are frequently used especially for younger owners. Users age 18 to 24 take selfies almost 5x more often than users age 55 or older.

MediaTek is using the results of its survey as a jumping point for its next generation of SoCs. The Helio P70, for example, focuses on AI features to improve both camera speed and power efficiency that potential buyers should find attractive.

Check out the full infographic below for more details on the survey. Unfortunately, MediaTek has not revealed the sample size of respondents or when the survey was conducted.
