PC gaming is expensive, so it's a good thing marketplaces like Steam always have some sort of sale going on. It's not easy to pick when the sales are so short, so instead of buying a game on a whim, have a look at these three great choices you can get for little more than a fancy coffee.

1. Dreamscaper is 40% off until May 16

Dreamscaper is a pretty unique combination of an action-adventure RPG and a rogue-lite dungeon crawler with a fast-paced, rewarding combat system. You play as Cassidy, a young woman whose inner demons take form in her dream world. You use lucid dreaming abilities to combat monsters and traverse different dungeons and landscapes.

Dreamscaper is a pretty unique take on the permadeath mechanic often seen in rogue-lite games. When you die in the dream world, you are kicked back to the waking world where you explore the city of Redhaven to further develop your character and lucid dreaming abilities, only to be thrust back to the start of your sleeping adventure and do it all over again.

Budget gamers will also be happy to know that Dreamscaper is a mere 6 GB download and only requires an NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 GPU for operation. Dreamscaper is on sale on Steam for US$14.99 until May 16, whereupon it will be available at US$24.99 once more.

2. Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos is 60% off until May 19

Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos is a top-down, rogue-lite, co-op adventure game with pixel graphics. You play in a party of up to four players to explore procedurally generated dungeons, clobber monsters, and solve the occasional puzzle. There are 10 classes to choose from, each with their own unique skillset and playstyle — hilariously, the Pirate class has a parrot to swoop you away when things get rough.

Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos is on sale on Steam for US$7.99 until May 19, after which you can buy it at the regular price of US$19.99.

Some games are just better on a controller, so check out the deep pink Xbox Core controller on Amazon.

3. Greak: Memories of Azur is 50% off until May 19

Greak: Memories of Azur is a single-player, side-scroller adventure game that sees the player explore the war-torn land of Azur as three siblings, each with their own abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. You alternate between controlling each sibling to solve puzzles and escape Azur and the invading forces.

The endearing, hand-drawn, 2-D graphics, creative gameplay mechanics, and family-driven plot make Greak a compelling package for anyone that likes a good puzzle game.

Greak: Memories of Azur is on sale on Steam for US$9.99 until May 19, after which you can purchase it at the regular price of US$19.99.

My interest in tech started in high school, rooting and flashing my Motorola Defy, but I really fell down the rabbit hole when I realised I could overclock the i7 930 in my Gigabyte pre-built PC. This tinkering addiction eventually lead me to study product design in university. I think tech should improve the lives of the people using it, no matter the field. I like to read and write about laptops, smartphones, software and trends in technology.
