One of the most popular PC games of all time, along with its sequel, may make a triumphant return this week.
A new video from EA and Maxis Games celebrating the 25th anniversary of the life simulation game series The Sims teased a possible re-release of the first two titles. As part of the celebration, the official X page for The Sims posted a schedule of events for the celebration, which includes a week titled "Nostalgia Now," which is scheduled to take place from January 27th to the 31st.
This lines up with a report from Kotaku, which states that a source familiar with the matter claims that both The Sims and The Sims 2 will be re-released by the end of the month. The source also claims the releases will include the numerous expansion packs for both titles.
A teaser video for the event shows the iconic green diamond icon that designated the active Sim from the original title surrounded by the action choice wheel from The Sims 2.
While The Sims 4 has been going strong for over a decade at this point, the earlier titles in the franchise are difficult (if not impossible) to obtain and play today. The Sims was only ever released on disc, and The Sims 2 was taken offline in 2014. Additionally, the games both require a fair bit of tinkering to install and run adequately on modern hardware.
Keep in mind, this release is speculation at this point. While it seems very likely that the original titles will be released (or at least make some kind of appearance in the next week), take this all with a grain of salt.
