The Android gaming handheld market has taken off in the last few years. Championed mainly by Anbernic, Ayaneo and Retroid, the Ayn Odin2 (curr. $399 on Amazon) still remains the go-to for its enduring price-performance ratio. Now, it seems that a new challenger is preparing to enter the fold called Mangmi.
Specifically, Mangmi has created the Air X, which should hopefully target a much lower price point than the Odin 2 or newer alternatives like the RG557, RG Slide and the Pocket Ace or Pocket S2. To achieve this, Mangmi has built the Air X around the Snapdragon 662, an 11 nm chipset that combines four ARM Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53 CPU cores with an Adreno 610 GPU.
While now six years old, the Snapdragon 662 performs about as well as other entry-level gaming handheld chipsets like the MediaTek Helio G85 and the Unisoc T610. Qualcomm GPU drivers could help edge performance in the Snapdragon 662's favour in some instances, though. For reference, the Mangmi Air X should arrive with 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64 GB of eMMC flash storage and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W charging too.
Moreover, the Air X will feature a 5.5-inch IPS display that outputs at 1080p in a 16:9 aspect ratio with 450 nits peak brightness. On top of that, Mangmi has included an active cooling solution to prevent thermal throttling, as well as a 6-axis gyroscope, Hall effect joysticks, and Hall effect triggers packaged within a housing that weighs 286 g and measures approximately 203 x 87 x 17 mm. Pricing and availability remain unknown for now; more details can be found on Mangmi's website.
