Reviews for the MSI PS63 Modern 8RC
Slim yet powerful is no longer witchcraft. MSI has developed the PS63 for productive power users who edit images and videos. Its dedicated GPU should meet the high demands of video and photo-editing, design work, 3D animation or music production. We will put the PS63 Modern 8RC through its paces in this detailed review and see how it stands up against its competitors.
I really don’t know what to make of the MSI PS63 Modern 8rc. Despite coming from a company that’s as value-conscious and sensible as MSI, I’m at a bit of a loss as to why the PS63 exists. It’s not competitive on any front and its best feature is a gimmick. If you’re a “creator”, you’d actually be better off with a gaming laptop or a MacBook Pro.

As much as we wanted to love this device, it just didn’t let us to. That’s a pity, especially given the fact that it is one of the prettiest laptops you can find on the market right now. Additionally, it checks all the boxes in theory – it has capable hardware, huge battery, and an attractive display, so … what went wrong?

MSI continues to bolster its business-friendly Prestige line with the PS63 Modern, a svelte 15.6-inch notebook that falls just short of the top rung of desktop replacements.

It's really hard to find a laptop that strikes the perfect balance between features and portability. MSI has come very close to that with the PS63 Modern. This is a company that knows what serious PC users want, and design hasn't come in the way of usability. The screen and keyboard are very good, battery life is strong, and overall construction quality is satisfying.

Offers a approx. 10 - 15% lower performance than the laptop GTX 1050 but at a much lower power consumption. Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15-16 inch is a standard display size for laptops and offers the biggest variety of products.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
This weight is typical for very big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal.
