Lucid Air keeps scoring 2022 Car of the Year awards in the electric vehicles category as, after it won the MotorTrend trophy, it now scored the Cars.com badge of honor. The famous car magazine gave it its EV of the year award on account of its record range on a charge, copious cargo space, and a responsive infotainment system in the luxury interior.

Lucid Air was dubbed the "high-performing, long-range, game-changing electric sedan from a California startup" by the prestigious MotorTrend magazine when it awarded it its Car of the Year 2022 award not long ago. Now, however, Lucid has scored another Top Pick in the electric vehicles category, this time by the no less prestigious Cars.com publication which had the record range of the Lucid Air as a common argument for the award, but other than that cited different reasons for its choice.

The magazine picked the Lucid Air performance sedan for its best electric car of 2022 ranking on account of its "stunning speed," the "520-mile range," the spacious trunk, as well "a responsive multimedia system and interior styling that challenges luxury-brand benchmarks." These are not features we hear about every day when the topic is electric vehicles - nobody has accused Tesla of having luxurious interiors or fast infotainment processing - but the details are what Lucid has paid special attention to, it seems.

Starting at a US$77,700 price, the Lucid Air not only beats the best battery range that Tesla can muster by literally a hundred miles on a charge - a 520-mile EPA estimate next to 412 miles for the Model S LR - but its Dream Edition Performance version has 1,111 HP (828 kW) motors while the Tesla Model S Plaid returns 1,020 HP (760 kW) of might. The top Lucid Air version, however, costs US$169,900, while the Tesla Model S Plaid costs about forty thousand dollars less. Still, two electric car of the year 2022 awards in a row for the Lucid Air hint that the high price of its performance sedan is somewhat defendable.
