After an apparent leak has revealed a rough timeframe for the upcoming European launch of the sleek electric sedan, the aspiring EV company is allegedly working on an impressive Lucid Air performance model which may even become the quickest production vehicle in the world.

In addition to numerous established automakers from Asia and Europe, the well-known EV pioneer Tesla also has to deal with an ambitious American company. Just recently, we reported on a Lucid Air that was spotted on a test drive at Tesla's very own test track in Fremont, and now the competitor has apparently revealed a time frame for its European expansion as well as plans for a new and frighteningly powerful performance model.

According to a report by InsideEVs, the Lucid Air will hit the German market in June or July of 2022 and then gradually become available in more European countries over the course of the next months and years. Orders in the UK could for example open by the end of 2022, with deliveries starting in early 2023. The luxury automaker may also pick Germany as the location for its European headquarters, since the country offers a great EV charging infrastructure as well as the potential for a comparatively large customer base with enough buying power to afford the expensive electric sedan.

A Lucid Air performance model with 1,600 horsepower is reportedly in the works

While the European prices for the sleek EV remain unknown at this point, there are rumors that the California-based company is further working on a flagship performance model of the Lucid Air with three electric motors. It is equipped with a so-called megawatt rear axle, whose two electric motors could produce up to 1,000 kW. In combination with a single motor in the front, this electric sedan could output a rather frightening 1,600 electric horsepower overall. With that, the electric sedan could potentially dethrone the Tesla Model S Plaid as the quickest production car in the world in terms of 0 to 60 mph acceleration, although raw performance is just one part of this equation.
