Logitech's new mousepad charges your wireless mouse as you use it
With today's high-performance wireless mice providing as low a latency as wired mice, it can be hard to choose between wired or wireless. Wired mice never need to be recharged or have new batteries bought for them, but the cord inevitably gets in the way; meanwhile, you never want to be unable to play a game (or worse, lose a game in progress) because your batteries died unexpectedly. Enter Logitech to solve this problem once and for all with their new "Powerplay" wireless charging technology that charges compatible mice while they're on the pad.
Not based on the existing "Qi" standard, Logitech says they have developed their own technology after more than four years of research and development. Unlike competing technologies, Logitech says that the Powerplay pad will charge your mouse anywhere, in any position, and during any movement on the pad. The two first mice to be compatible with the charging pad are the G703 and G903. The G903 is a small upgrade over the G900 Spectrum, while the G703 is the successor to the G403. The G903 and G703 will go on sale later this month for US$150 and US$100, respectively. The Powerplay mat is priced at US$100 and will be released in August.
