The Liberux NEXX is a unique smartphone that prioritizes privacy, longevity and versatility. This is reflected in the kill switches, the 32 GB of RAM and the option of expanding storage up to 2 TB, and its desktop-capable features.

We've previously reported on the Liberux NEXX: the smartphone is now crowdfunding. Supporters will receive a smartphone for a contribution of approximately €1,300 (approx. $1480), although the financial risks typical of crowdfunding campaigns also apply here. Only a small portion of the target contribution has been reached and it remains to be seen whether the funding will actually reach its target. Delivery is scheduled for July 2026.

The unique aspect of the smartphone is its operating system, namely LiberuxOS, a Linux distribution based on Debian 13, which itself is characterized by enhanced stability, ease of use, long-term support and an extensive repository of software packages, catering to a wide range of user needs. Android can also be considered a Linux distribution, but comes with a de facto dependency on Google. Android applications should nevertheless still function on the Liberux NEXX.

The smartphone is equipped with a Rockchip RK3588S SoC with four Cortex A76 and four Cortex A55 processors, flanked by a generous 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The 512 GB eMMC storage is not only removable but can also be expanded using a microSD card. A 5G cellular modem is included, as is Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. Two USB-C ports are on board.

Liberux installs a 6.34-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080. The camera and microphone, among other features, can be deactivated using hardware buttons. An LTE version with 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage will be available starting Monday for just under €900 (approx. $1025).
