Lenovo releases new 14-inch ThinkPad in North America with dual SSD slots and upgradeable RAM

Earlier this week, Lenovo released the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. At the time, the laptop was only referred to as 'coming soon' in Europe and North America. While that remains the case in Europe, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 has quietly gone on sale in North America to replace older Gen 7 models (curr. $899 on Amazon).
Currently, Lenovo is offering the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 in a single SKU. However, Lenovo's Australian, Hong Kong, Malaysian and Singaporean websites suggest that multiple ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 configurations will eventually be available in North America too. Unfortunately, it remains unclear when that will be the case.
In the meantime, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 costs $1,399 in the US and CAD 1,939. For those prices, Lenovo includes 16 GB of DDR5-5600 SODIMM RAM that can be upgraded in the future. Also, while the laptop comes configured with 512 GB of M.2 2242 storage, a second M.2 slot is on hand to support M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
Moreover, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 ships with a 1200p and 60 Hz IPS display that peaks at 400 nits while covering just 45% of the NTSC colour space. This display is joined by a 48 Wh battery and the Core Ultra 5 325, an 8-core processor that performed well when we reviewed the XPS 16 earlier this year.
