The 5th Gen ThinkPad X1 Yoga is a conservative update to an already great business laptop. For now, that's OK. But in the future, it might not be. The competition is heating up with the likes of the HP Elite Dragonfly pushing the boundaries of design in the business segment. If it wasn't for outdated CPUs and an inflated price, the Elite Dragonfly would be neck-and-neck with the X1 Yoga as the top business 2-in-1 laptop.

Lenovo’s latest convertible laptop in the ThinkPad series is clad in familiar clothing. A Comet Lake-based chip and Wi-Fi 6 are two headline features of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2020. Read our review to learn what this actually means and whether this negatively affects battery life.

There's a lot to like about the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5, and its keyboard and screen are simply as good as it gets among business convertibles. Its battery life is disappointing, but otherwise it competes admirably against enterprise alternatives from HP and Dell.

We really like the look and form factor of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga. The 2-in-1 form factor is useful for artists, note takers, and anybody who wants to hang out away from the TV and privately binge the latest Amazon Prime Video craze. The thing that stops us from fully embracing it is that the machine's mobile platform simply needs an update. Granted, Tiger Lake was just announced and we've only had a small taste of what it can do. Waiting for systems with those 11th-gen CPUs to show up could be very tempting, though, especially for those who hold onto notebooks for a long time to come. However, if you need a 2-in-1 notebook with a gorgeous 4K 14-inch display today, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga could could a good fit and will serve most mainstream consumers well.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga is a winner for the same reason that it's always been a winner. It's a well-built machine that passes a dozen MIL-STD-810G tests, and it's reliable. It has one of the best keyboards around, excellent Dolby Atmos speakers, and a pretty display.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

86.64%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
