Lenovo ThinkPad T590 Series
The ThinkPad T590 was introduced to the tech scene with a simple, new look but with a promise to increase day-to-day productivity while capitalizing on several of its core features. Lenovo has stepped up on its game in terms of graphics. One of the most notable traits when it comes to its new bezel design is the seemingly larger display area, which boasts increased brightness and improved color accuracy, all thanks to the discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX250. Compared to its predecessors, this mobile graphics card also demonstrated a slight increase of clock speeds, and runs at a better pace should the device be configured to lower settings. This particular model also boasts a rather large 15.6-inch display without adding to the burden of its weight.
The ThinkPad T590 is fairly slim and light despite of its size in order to ensure uncompromised portability for those who travel around often. The ThinkPad T590 is said to be 11 percent lighter than the previous version, capping at 1.72 kg (3.8 lbs) at most, thus rendering it as one of the many practical working tools to be considered for various offsite projects. The ThinkPad models are known to be tested against 12 military-grade requirements, and the T590 is all but an exception. Over 200 quality checks were run to ensure that the ThinkPad can operate under harsh and extreme conditions. The results from these tests proved that the ThinkPad T590 can still operate smoothly under real-world environmental stresses throughout its entire service life. This enables users to comfortably access modern technology even if they were stationed outdoors where gadgets are susceptible to malfunction due to prolonged environmental exposure.
The ThinkPad T590 houses an estimate of 15 hours of battery life. Though battery life varies significantly with different settings and usage, the incorporation of rapid-charge technology for this model, which comes with the 65 W AC adapter, enables the laptop to be charged sufficiently in a short duration of time. This feature is bound to be appreciated by users especially for those who lead a fast-paced lifestyle in the hustle and bustle of big cities. Lenovo capitalized on security of its consumers’ privacy by including the ThinkShutter feature in this particular model. ThinkShutter is a clever, physical built-in sliding cover resting next to the webcam of the device. This may seem to be a small and insignificant tweak, but it is a subtle and effective solution for anyone concerned about their privacy. Furthermore, this model also offers additional (but optional) security measures such as the incorporation of a Hybrid Infrared (IR) camera and touch fingerprint reader for biometric login.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T590 is only available in the color black, maintaining its modern chic aesthetic and minimalistic theme. This makes the device suitable to be carried into business and professional settings. Consumers from all walks of life are also able to benefit from the model’s improved graphics and security for the betterment of their productivity.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T590 is a larger version of the popular ThinkPad T490. The bigger chassis offers some advantages and the ThinkPad T590 is the lightest 15.6-inch ThinkPad of the T series so far. Unfortunately, it is worse than its smaller sister model in one key aspect.

Let’s put it this way – Lenovo has done a very good job in building this device. It stays up to the promise of being a corporate workhorse, by the corporate workhorse standards. We imagine that they would prioritize security features and versatility on top of pure performance figures and input device perfection.

The standard 1080p display in the ThinkPad T590 wasn't able to convince us in our review. Fortunately, Lenovo offers an optional 4K matte display that provides excellent image quality. However, you have to accept a loss in battery life in exchange.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
i7-8565U: Whiskey Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.

86.9%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
