Also a success with the base specs? After the high-end version of the ThinkPad T460s could already convince us, we now have a look at the base configuration. The Full HD panel in particular, however, cannot fulfill the high expectations.

The ThinkPad T460s offers a strong combination of performance, usability and portability, thanks to its svelte chassis, accurate screen and comfortable touchpad. However, a relatively stiff keyboard (for a ThinkPad) and below-average battery life prevent it from surpassing its predecessor and becoming our favorite business laptop.

As is appropriate for a business notebook, Lenovo keeps bloatware to a minimum. You get the apps and utilities that ship with Windows 10 Pro, plus Lenovo’s own management utilities, and that's just about it. (All that irked us was a McAfee LiveSafe Internet Security trial.)

Lenovo once again managed to deliver a premium 14-inch business laptop by which most others will be judged. Unfortunately, the ThinkPad T460s doesn’t completely leapfrog its predecessor … and that is a potential problem for customers. Yes, the “road warriors” who frequently depend on ThinkPads appreciate thinner and lighter notebooks. Despite that fact, we doubt those same business travelers appreciate loosing the option to keep their notebooks running for an extra four hours or more.

Model: The Lenovo T460s-20F9003SGE is an ultrabook packed with features, feather-light and suitable for business users that like to travel light and be connected at all times as it fits perfectly into the backpack, briefcase or tote. The laptop has the same classy and simple matte design similar to most of other business laptops from Lenovo and has passed durability tests for withstanding dings, extreme temperatures, high altitudes, humidity and vibrations with the help of its carbon-fibre-reinforced lid and magnesium chassis. The Windows 10 Pro system comes with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-6200U processor, an Intel HD Graphics 520 graphic card and a 256 GB Solid State Drive.

Its 14 inch Full HD IPS anti-Glare touchscreen provides sharp images, wide viewing angles and accurate colors. The colors look realistic and not overly rich but the downside is that the display is fairly dim. This T460s model has 4 GB of DDR4 RAM. The keyboard is spill resistant but feels a little stiff. However, it still provides an above-average typing experience. There is a 4-in-1 card reader to compensate for the non-existent DVD burner. The laptop has two USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet connector, a Kensington lock slot, an HDMI port, a Mini-Display port, a headphone jack and a 720P HD webcam. It is lightweight at only 1.4 kg and its battery life only lasted up to 7 hours and 21 minutes during continuous web browsing via WiFi.

Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

79.48%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
