Alongside the refreshed ThinkPad P15 Gen 2, Lenovo is also offering an upgraded ThinkPad P17 Gen 2. Lenovo said that the ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 offers the "largest workspace available in a Lenovo mobile workstation" thanks to its 17.3-inch color calibrated display.
Apart from the larger screen size, the ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 sports the same specifications as the ThinkPad P15 Gen 2. Unlike the P15 Gen 2, the ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 offers fewer display options. There's no OLED touch variant, but you get a UHD IPS 500-nit anti-glare display that supports HDR400 and Dolby Vision. The only other display option available is an FHD IPS 300-nit anti-glare panel.
Powering the ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 is a choice of Intel 11th gen Core and Xeon offerings up to eight cores. Buyers can also configure the device with up to an NVIDIA RTX A5000 GPU, up to 128 GB ECC/non-ECC RAM, and up to 6 GB PCIe storage spread over three NVMe drives that can be configured in RAID 0 or RAID 1. The GPU will be available as a daughter card to allow for configurability with several CPU choices.
The ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 comes with several ISV certifications including software from Autodesk, SolidWorks, CATIA, and the likes. Lenovo also said that the ThinkPad P series workstations are NVIDIA Studio-validated. Other software enhancements include an Ultra Performance Mode that allows for more power to the CPU and GPU, a self-healing BIOS, and Lenovo Commercial Vantage, which is a one-stop shop for device management for both individuals and IT admins.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P17 Gen 2 will be available from July at prices starting from US$1,779.
