Lenovo ThinkPad P16: Workstation-class hardware in a 16-inch laptop
The Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX CPU powering the ThinkPad P16 is quite a powerhouse, packing a 20-core setup for multithreaded performance that trades blows with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 Strix Halo APU and Intel Core i9-14900HX. Unsurprisingly, the majority of CPU-intensive workloads will be well-suited for the system.
32 GB of DDR5-4400 memory is on offer, upgradeable to a whopping 192 GB courtesy of four SODIMM slots. A single 1 TB SSD is present, housed in an M.2 2280 Gen 5 slot. Two more Gen 4 slots are also available for storage expansion.
As mentioned earlier, the Nvidia RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell Laptop GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM handles the graphics side of things, promising respectable mid-range performance in demanding workflows.

Backed by 3,328 CUDA cores, 5th-gen Tensor cores and 4th gen RT cores, the RTX PRO 2000 should be a decent choice for moderately intensive 3D rendering, CAD, as well as AI-acceleration. StorageReview's in-depth review of the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 shows promising results with good thermal headroom.
A 16-inch 4K IPS display with 800 nits of claimed peak brightness and a whopping 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut is also on offer, making the workstation laptop suitable for color sensitive work as well. The I/O on offer is excellent, detailed below:
- Dual Thunderbolt 5, single Thunderbolt 4
- Dual USB-A (10 Gbps)
- 2.5G Ethernet, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4
- SD Express 8.0
- HDMI 2.1
- Optional nano SIM slot and smart card reader
The laptop has revived ISV certifications from Adobe, ANSYS, Autodesk, Dasault, and many other prominent names in the industry. Other notable features of the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 laptop includes a 99.9 Whr battery, MIL-STD-810H certification, discrete TPM module, and a 5 MP IR camera for facial recognition. At over 5.51 pounds heavy and 0.82-inches thick, the ThinkPad P16, while compact, is definitely quite a chunky laptop, which is to be expected.
