A short while ago, a huge leak of Lenovo's PC lineup for the Mobile World Congress (MWC) was published. Part of the leak for Lenovo's lineup for the Barcelona fair in early March were plenty of new ThinkPad laptops, the Lenovo business laptop series.
Most interesting is a completely new model: the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s 2in-1. With this new ThinkPad laptop, Lenovo is seemingly releasing a convertible variant of the ThinkPad T series for the very first time in its 20 year history.
At the same time, it seems like an established model is disappearing. Up until now, there was the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 that we recently tested as the X13 2-in-1 Gen 5, a convertible model with a 13.3 inch screen. This one is missing in the leak, so it seems like Lenovo is ditching this line in favor of the bigger 14 inch model. In this, Lenovo follows a general trend - for example, Asus has stopped offering ZenBook laptops with 13 inch screens, instead transitioning the line to 14 inch.
At least, Lenovo is not being quite as drastic. Fans of smaller ThinkPads can rest easy, since the leak also included the new Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6, though only the clamshell variant. The death of the convertible model would mean the end of a long tradition, as the first ThinkPad X series convertible came out in 2005.
The advantages of the bigger model, apart from the bigger screen, would be a larger touchpad and wider keyboard, as well as more room for the cooling system and battery. On the flip side, this would result in a bigger footprint and the weight may also increase on the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 when compared with the X13 2-in-1.
