Lenovo’s ThinkBook lineup isn’t supposed to blow you away with raw power—these machines target value, and the ThinkBook 16 Gen 7 is the truest expression of that tradition. It would be easy to dismiss Lenovo’s new ThinkBook on the basis of its middling performance and build quality, but the price makes this notebook worth thinking about. This is a solid productivity machine for well under a grand. You should keep its shortcomings in mind, though. It’s running a last-gen processor, and the base model doesn’t have enough RAM. The small battery and iffy build quality are also sticking points. Lenovo’s pricing is constantly changing, and its “estimated value” discounts are plainly misleading.

No surprises here, the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 7 is as capable as its predecessor. It’s a good choice for people who need a capable daily driver or a standard office machine. The lid and the base are decently solid, and the input devices are comfortable. During heavy CPU loads, the keyboard doesn’t feel scorching hot and the fan noise isn’t intrusive. At the same time, the Core Ultra 5 125U can sustain a 2.90 GHz / 2.40 GHz P and E-core clock in long loads which is a pretty respectable result considering the single fan cooling. The port selection is more than adequate with its four USB connectors and the fine upgradability makes this notebook future-proof. The 1200p IPS display (LEN160WUXGA (LEN9156)) is suitable for such a laptop workhorse.

A brighter, more vivid panel would help considerably, but it would probably lift the ThinkBook 16 Gen 7 out of the economy class and into more direct competition with higher-end Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, and HP EliteBook business laptops. But a display that's lacking but not terrible is the worst complaint we can muster against this system, which provides reasonable connectivity and an excellent keyboard in a relatively trim package for a big-screen machine. Keep its price in mind, and you'll be well satisfied, but just know you can save even more cash with the award-winning Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 5.

As far as budget-friendly business laptops go, the ThinkBook offers plenty. The laptop’s performance isn’t breaking any benchmark records, but it's more than enough to handle your email, spreadsheets, and video calls. The FHD webcam is rather high-quality for a laptop webcam, making it ideal for the hybrid worker. The keyboard is also rather satisfying despite being more mushy than average. And it’s hard to argue with 21 hours of battery life. That said, the display is a massive disappointment. So if you need to do a lot of graphic design or editing work, we would not recommend the ThinkBook at all. The base configuration is a bit expensive for a budget laptop.

If you don't need all the fancy and expensive features of a traditional ThinkPad, then the ThinkBook 16 G7 can save you a ton of cash especially for SMB applications. Its efficient Core Ultra 5 CPU is a highlight while the base 1200p panel could use an upgrade.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
Intel Arc 8-Core: Integrated graphics adapter based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides all 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) and 8 ray tracing units.
Intel Arc 7-Core: Integrated graphics adapter based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 7 of the 8 Xe cores (112 Xe Vector Engines) and 7 ray tracing units.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: An integrated graphics adapter that the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core X1P-42-100 SoC features. Compared to the faster 3.8 TFLOPS and 4.6 TFLOPS X1-85 iGPUs, this one does not just run at lower clock speeds but also has fewer unified shaders at its disposal, with 768 being the most likely number. The underlying architecture is reportedly not much different from what was used in the Adreno 730. As for its gaming performance, it's only just sufficient for pre-2020 games at resolutions such as HD 720p on low graphics settings.
Intel Graphics 4-Core: Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 4 Xe cores (64 Xe vector engines) and 4 ray tracing units.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
