Did you ever get one of those “as seen on TV” gifts as a kid that made the product seem like the best thing since sliced bread? The commercials always played up the toy’s capabilities, and raised your expectations, driving you to plead with your parents to buy the thing. And then, after receiving it, you’d tinker around with the toy in starry-eyed wonder for all of 30 minutes before being disillusioned and realizing you’re just playing with a plastic box outfitted with a single lightbulb (that wasn’t even included). Yes, I’m looking at you Easy Bake Oven of the 1990s.

Having a Smart Display in your living space makes for a great central hub where you and other family members can check schedules, play music or Youtube video, make video calls, control your Google or Alexa integrated home, and display favorite photos. Having that display also function as a family tablet when it’s not docked adds extra convenience and value. The Lenovo Smart Tab M8 and Smart Tab M10 are 2-in-1 devices that can serve as smart displays or as stand-alone tablets.

Lenovo Smart Tab M8 is currently priced at P8,490. It is a great tablet for family use, not a gaming performance tablet but a great day to day device for entertainment or playing casual games. Convenience and connectivity is the main reason to buy this device. Also thanks to google assistant this device can operate hands-free and will be your great companion when cooking, productivity, and many more. A family-friendly device and perfect for your kids with just a budget-friendly price.

Given the specs, it’s not something you’d want to have as a productivity device. It’s more like for students looking for a tool where they can stream learning content at home or for anyone who wants to browse the internet or social media accounts casually. The PHP 8,490 (bundled with the smart charging station) seems enticing as well. However, if you don’t need an 8-inch screen, we suggest getting a smartphone instead. There are models out there that can offer you better performance at that price range.

The main audience of the Smart Tab M8 is not for those who are looking for a tablet that can be used for heavyweight productivity. Instead, it is a basic tablet that acts more like a companion for your smart home devices while being a decent device for watching movies.
