We checked out both the AMD and Intel versions of the 2023 Lenovo Legion Pro 5 after they launched. As it became evident in our in-depth look, they are basically identical gaming laptops with different processors.

To be exact, they both got the same 88% score in our reviews. Among the two, the Intel variant, also known as Legion Pro 5i Gen 8, is currently enjoying a generous $300 discount from the listed price on Best Buy, dropping it from $1,799.99 to $1,499.99. This discounted price tag makes it offer a much better value than at launch.

When it comes to the main highlights, the gaming laptop packs the Intel Core i7-13700HX CPU. It’s a 13th gen processor with 16 cores and 24 threads. In this configuration of the Legion Pro 5i, the CPU is paired with the Nvidia RTX 4070. These two, with 16 GB of RAM, make this model more than capable of offering smooth gaming performance.

Regarding thermal management, Lenovo integrated the ColdFront 5.0 cooling system into the Legion 5 Pro Gen 8 laptops. With four copper heat pipes and two 60 mm fans, it aims to deliver optimal cooling even while running demanding games.
