Mount & Blade: Warband is a sandbox role-playing game developed by TaleWorlds Entertainment and released in March 2010 as the successor to the first Mount & Blade installment. This means that the game is already a few years old, which is also noticeable graphically. However, Warband is still very interesting in terms of gameplay - especially in view of the fact that it is available on Steam with a 90 percent discount until March 7 - for 2 instead of 20 euros.

Players write their own story

Mount & Blade: Warband is set in the medieval world of Calradia, where there are various factions in conflict with each other. The game does not have a linear storyline. Instead, players have the freedom to set their own goals and explore the world as they wish. The options are varied: players can join one of the factions and go to war for them, build up their own army and try to become ruler of Calradia themselves, or lead a peaceful life as a trader, to name just a few options.

The combat system is also remarkable. You fight with medieval weapons from a first- or third-person perspective, with timing and precision being of the utmost importance. You have to block in time and strike at the decisive moment. Other important aspects of the game include recruiting and training troops, managing resources and conquering castles and towns.
