The Lenovo Essential G560 is a solid entry into the consumer budget notebook market. Reasonable is the best word to describe it; the keyboard is good and the build quality none too shabby. It has more than ample performance for everyday tasks, a long four-hour battery life, and runs cool and quiet. The wide variety of input/output ports, including HDMI, e-SATA, and ExpressCard, is impressive for this class.

When you come across a 15.6-inch laptop with a sub-$700 price tag, you’re probably going to assume that it must be riddled with compromises in order to sell for several hundred dollars less than most other mainstream laptops. The 15.6-inch Lenovo G560 offers strong performance and battery life for its class and includes features not-often found on laptops that are this inexpensive.

Core competence. What the Extensa is for Acer, the G560 is for Lenovo. Simple case, cheap hardware and attractive prices. Core i3-350M from 455 Euro? Even the smallest of money-bags can obtain the 2010 Intel generation with the 15.6-incher.

For shoppers on a budget, the Lenovo G560-0679AKU manages to hit all the right notes: decent processing power, sizeable storage, and a design that's fit for grown-ups. It doesn't quite supplant the Acer Aspire AS5745-7247, the Editors' Choice in budget laptops, due to the latter's larger hard drive and better battery life for the same price, but it comes pretty close.

Lenovo's Essential G560 laptop works well in some ways but falls short in others. This model powered by the Intel Pentium dual core processor and priced between $550 and $600 makes a bit too many sacrifices compared to slightly more expensive models. Those willing to spend a bit more can get a Core i3 processor, eSATA port and HDMI.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

Intel Core i5:
540M: The Core i5-540M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-3.06 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.
Intel Core i3:
350M:
The Core i3-350M is technically a Core i5-430M without the Turbo Boost overlocking feature. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.26 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
330M:
The Core i3-330M is a slower clocked 350M and therefore also lacks the Turbo Boost feature and clocks with max. 2.13 GHz. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
370M: The Core i3-370M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.4 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
Intel Pentium:
P6100: The Pentium P6100 is an entry level CPU based on the Arrandale core. Compared to the Celeron P4600, the P6100 offers a bit better performance due to the faster System Bus and an increased Level 3 cache. However, VT-x is not available for the P6100.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.467 kg:
3.3 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
75.4%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
