One of the best-known smartphone information leakers, Ice universe, has been offering his take on how the market may treat the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 range, with focus on the Galaxy S23 Ultra model. While not being a fan of the base Galaxy S23 device, the tipster has some praise for the S23 Ultra, especially in the camera department. It may seem like an S22 Ultra clone from the exterior, but he suggests that fans and potential buyers should focus on the many upgrades for the interior. However, saying this has not stopped the leaker from foreseeing the potential demise of the Galaxy S23 Ultra before it is even released.
In a different thread, Ice universe exclaims, “And Samsung wants to turn defeat into victory, and can only wait until the S24 Ultra in 2024”. He picks out the new Vivo X90 Pro+ as an example smartphone that could wreck the party for Samsung, with the device’s 3.5x optical zoom purportedly superior to the 10x optical zoom of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. In fact, the source is so impressed by Vivo’s work and update strategy that he believes that the Chinese OEM's flagship phone also has a “high probability of killing the S23 Ultra” along with causing its predecessor's demise. Ice universe seems to be so despondent about the 2023 flagships that he even suggests Samsung considers releasing an “S23S Ultra” model later in the year to introduce more changes.
With Samsung reportedly failing to meet a sales target of 30 million units for the Galaxy S22 range, it is easy to see why the leaker is already prophesizing doom for the Galaxy S23 series. Perhaps to ease the blow of this negative prediction, Ice universe also presented some details in regard to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, stating that it will “adopt a new solution” in regard to the zoom camera setup. It’s worth noticing he doesn’t say something like “better” or “improved”, and the leaker also says that the S24 Ultra’s main camera may not even be altered or only be “slightly changed”. There was a time when the popular commenter was very much pro-Samsung, so it’s unlikely he has switched allegiances in a capricious manner, and it will be interesting to see how the S23 series fares against its Android rivals and the apparently struggling-for-sales iPhone 14 lineup.

The vivo X series is updated every six months until the vivo X90 Pro+, which uses a 3.5x sensor to kill the 10x telephoto of the S22 Ultra, and has a high probability of killing the S23 Ultra by the way. This is the benefit, it can always get the latest technology.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to replace the telephoto sensor and adopt a new solution. I think the main camera will remain the same or be slightly changed.
