Leak reveals Sony's free PS Plus games for October 2023

It’s certainly no surprise that the Japanese gaming behemoth Sony will once again offer its paying customers with an active PlayStation Plus Essentials subscription multiple free games in October 2023. Since the turn of the month is only five days away and Sony hasn’t put out any tangible info on the upcoming titles, a very reliable French leaker from Deallabs has now jumped the gun and revealed two of the three expected PS Plus games 

The arguably most exciting free PS Plus game in October appears to be the survival horror game The Callisto Protocol, which was released in late 2022. As a spiritual successor to the well-known Dead Space series, the first title made by the California-based developer Striking Distance Studios received mixed reviews and has received an overall MetaScore of 69 points for the Sony PS5 version. Amazon currently charges US$20 for The Callisto Protocol for PlayStation 5, so PS Plus subscribers can save some of their hard-earned bucks starting next Tuesday.

The leaker further claims that the Farming Simulator 22 is going to be the second title of Sony’s PS Plus lineup for October 2023. The self-explanatory game, which was developed by the Switzerland’s Giant Software, managed to build a loyal fanbase in many parts of the world and currently sits at a MetaScore of 75. With the 2022 iteration, Sony is supposedly offering PlayStation Plus Essentials customers the latest console version of the series for free since the 2023 sequel is only available on mobile platforms. Farming Simulator 22 currently costs US$39 on Amazon, which means that the free PS Plus games for October 2023 will have a value of at least US$59.

Update: Sony officially confirms all three PS Plus games for October

In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony has now confirmed that the two aforementioned games will indeed be part of the October lineup for PS Plus subscribers. Additionally, PlayStation owners with an activate Essentials subscription will be able to play and download the action role-playing game Weird West for free from October 3 until November 6.
