Leak: Star Fox may be coming to Switch 2 soon – but not as expected

Leaks from well-known insider Nate the Hate were already making the rounds in late March, claiming that Nintendo could release a new Star Fox game for Nintendo Switch 2 and that it might arrive as early as summer 2026. Now the rumor has picked up steam again after being discussed on the VGC podcast.

At the start of the show, Jordan Midler brought up the rumor again and referred both to Nate the Hate and to sources close to VGC. According to those reports, Nintendo is indeed working on a Star Fox comeback for Switch 2. The previously mentioned release window of “summer 2026” was also repeated. That suggests the game could be revealed in the coming months and would therefore likely have to appear at one of the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations.

Possible shift in direction

Also noteworthy is a comment from RPGSite editor-in-chief and well-known industry insider Alex Donaldson, who claims to have heard that the new Star Fox spin-off is supposed to be “really funny.” That may not sound especially spectacular at first, but for Star Fox it could point to a fairly major shift in direction.

The series has not been completely humorless in the past, but its overall tone has usually been more serious. Donaldson’s remark therefore suggests that Nintendo could place more emphasis this time on story, dialogue and character work. The podcast also notes that Fox McCloud in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie seems more charismatic and relaxed than in many of the games, which could also fit a lighter direction for the new title.
