LG announces the Gentle flip phone
The flip phone will target the Asian market and will include a Snapdragon SoC with 1 GB RAM.

The flip form factor has waned in most regions, but it remains popular in Asia. The LG Gentle is the newest addition with updated hardware and Android 5.1 software specifically for the Asian market.

In terms of hardware, the Gentle curiously lacks a secondary display on the outer lid. Its main 3.2-inch display provides a resolution of 320 x 480 for a density of 180 PPI. An entry-level Snapdragon 210 SoC is the heart of the device alongside its 1 GB of system RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. Its rear and front cameras are 5 MP and 0.3 MP, respectively. MicroSD cards are supported for additional storage space.

The LG Gentle will launch in South Korea first on July 29 for the equivalent of 155 Euros. Colors will be available in Black or Brown. The manufacturer has yet to announce details for a launch outside of Asia.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s.
