The GSM Association announced that LG G3 is Best Smartphone of the Year during the Global Mobile Awards event held at MWC 2015. Next to it, the new LG Watch Urbane smartwatches won nine awards from top-tier media outlets, reveals LG's official press release.

"Since launch, the LG G3 has been critically acclaimed, carried by over 170 partners across the globe and its success has largely contributed to the 16 percent increase in annual global revenue," reads the award announcement. The handset was praised for its "intuitive user experience," stabilized camera with Laser Auto Focus, as well as innovations such as Gesture/Flash for Selfie, Smart Keyboard, or the notorious KnockCode.

LG Watch Urbane and LG Watch Urbane LTE were chosen to receive various awards from prominent media outlets such as Android Central, Digital Trends, Ubergizmo, or Expert Reviews.

"We will continue to innovate and perfect our premium smartphones and wearable devices to improve the lives of our customers," said LG Electronics Mobile Communications CEO Juno Cho.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
