Konami has quietly announced on its website that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, will arrive in the fall of 2025, following shortly after the game’s release on August 28, 2025, for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Fox Hunt is directed by Yu Sahara, a Game Designer known for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Ground Zeroes, Peace Walker, and The Phantom Pain. Described as a completely original game mode, Fox Hunt has received a fall launch window and will be significantly different from Metal Gear Online, which launched as part of the PS2’s Subsistence expansion for the original Snake Eater title.
During the multiplayer mode’s reveal at the Konami Press Start event in June 2025, Yu Sahara stated:
“We really appreciate all the long-time fans of Metal Gear Online who have always wanted to see it make a comeback, but the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since Metal Gear Online.”
Metal Gear Online was cherished by fans when it first debuted in 2006 and ran till 2012. The game mode is set to embrace the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s stealth mechanics and take hide-and-seek to the next level. According to Konami:
“Fox Hunt utilizes the fundamentals of one of the popular game rules from Metal Gear Online and the sneaking gameplay elements iconic to the Metal Gear series, and the latest graphical enhancements that amplify the tension of hide-and-seek to a whole new level.”
Earlier footage of Fox Hunt showcased players blending into the terrain using an enhanced version of what seems to be Metal Gear Solid 4’s OctoCamo system. As soon as the player stops moving near a surface, they automatically blend into the environment.
Still, Konami hasn’t confirmed the specifics, such as player counts per match, cross-play, and additional game modes. However, Sahara stated that more information will be revealed as the fall 2025 release date for Fox Hunt nears.
There’s still some skepticism in the air because of 2018’s Metal Gear Survive’s lackluster reception. The decision not to release Fox Hunt alongside Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes has garnered mixed reactions from the Metal Gear fan base, but the majority of the community is hopeful for a fun multiplayer experience when it shows up later this year.
For now, players can enjoy the revamped Metal Gear Solid 3 experience when the game launches on August 28, 2025.
