The iconic Jeep brand is taking a big step forward with the Recon 2026, a fully electric SUV designed to rival its combustion engine counterparts off-road. The model has just now made its debut, and its technical specs are a clear statement to the competition. The Recon electric off-road SUV utilizes an electric architecture from parent company Stellantis, presumably the STLA Large electric platform, and has two electric drive modules for true all-wheel drive (4x4). Jeep claims a system output of a generous 650 hp (478 kW) and a hefty 840 Nm of torque for the Recon.
The off-road electric vehicle accelerates to 100 km/h in around 3.6 seconds. Powered by a 100 kWh battery with 400-volt technology, the Recon reportedly has a range of around 450 kilometers (around 280 miles). The real draw for enthusiasts, however, is the "Trail Rated" seal, which promises electronic limited-slip differentials on the rear axle, solid steel underbody plates and rugged 33-inch off-road tires in the Moab Edition. The "Selec-Terrain" system offers modes for snow, sand and rock. The front axle automatically disengages when necessary to save energy. The ground clearance is a respectable 23 centimeters, which should be sufficient for most rough obstacles.
Visually and functionally, the new model is clearly inspired by the legendary Wrangler, but with a modern touch. A real highlight for open-air enthusiasts is its convertible capability, meaning that the doors can be removed without tools, and the rear windows and tailgate glass are also removable. Inside, Jeep has opted for a blend of ruggedness and high-tech features. A massive 14.5-inch touchscreen dominates the center, flanked by a 12.3-inch driver display. The system runs on Uconnect 5 and offers specialized off-road apps like "Trails Offroad" with pre-installed routes.
The frunk under the front hood holds 84 liters and the rear trunk up to 1,866 liters with the seats folded down. Sustainability was a key consideration in the creation of the Recon, as many interior materials are recycled and the carpets and headliner are made from recycled fabrics. Production of the Recon will begin in early 2026 at the Toluca plant in Mexico. The initial market launch will be in the US and Canada, with a starting price of around $65,000. Global expansion, likely including a European launch, is planned for late 2026.
