Toyota has begun production of the new Aygo X Hybrid in Kolin (TMMCZ). The small car is the only full hybrid in the A segment. Following investments of 680€ million, production of a completely new BEV will also start at the Toyota plant in Czechia in 2026.

Toyota has begun production of the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid, the smallest Toyota model in Europe, at its TMMCZ car plant in Kolin, Czech Republic. Another key aspect of the new launch is that the Toyota Aygo X Hybrid is the first and only full hybrid in the A segment. According to Toyota, the small car provides "class-leading CO2 values" and has the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-plug-in vehicle on the market. With this electrified vehicle in the A segment, the company is making its hybrid technology more accessible.

Peter Rade, Vice President of Quality at Toyota Motor Europe, highlights that the new Aygo X Hybrid offers "improved efficiency, dynamic performance, and advanced safety features". Aygo production in Kolin began back in 2005. The current crossover variant, the Aygo X, was introduced in 2021 and has been manufactured more than 365,000 times to date. With the launch of the new full hybrid model, Toyota now offers electrified powertrains in all major passenger car segments in Europe, consistently pursuing its "multi-path strategy" for CO2 reduction.

The start of production of the Aygo X Hybrid is just one part of a much larger transformation at the Kolin plant. The TMMCZ plant, which employs around 3,200 people, also manufactures the Yaris and has housed a mega logistics hub since 2024, is undergoing a massive upgrade in order to transition to pure e-mobility. As Toyota announced back in September, the group is investing a whopping 680€ million in the site. The goal is to produce a completely new battery electric vehicle (BEV), including the associated battery systems, starting in 2026.

For this, the TMMCZ plant will be expanded from 152,000 to over 173,000 square meters, including a new paint shop and welding shop. Robert Kiml, President of TMMCZ, confirmed this dual strategy: "We are delighted to start production of the Aygo X Hybrid and at the same time to press ahead with preparations for the manufacture of electric vehicles". The introduction of the GR Sport version for the Aygo X is also a "unique chapter", he said. The Czech government is supporting the BEV investment with up to 64€ million.
