Intel PR manager showcases new NUC mini-PC prototype design
An Intel PR manager has provided a look at what could be to come from the company’s NUC mini-PC range. While Intel continuously updates the internals of its NUC mini-PCs, their designs have remained stagnant, excluding the NUC 13 Extreme. The latter stretches the idea of a mini-PC to the extreme though, with the machine resembling a desktop PC more than the rest of the NUC mini-PC range.
As the likes of FanlessTech and VideoCardz note, the design shown may not be final. Specifically, Mikael Moreau has showcased a prototype chassis, within which sits a NUC 12 Pro motherboard. The device, therefore, should not necessarily be considered a NUC 13 Pro. Instead, we suspect Moreau is teasing the new place in which the NUC series is headed, with a greater focus on ventilation that doubles as a design aesthetic.
It is unclear whether Intel intends to release any NUC-branded mini-PC in the colourway shown, either. Potentially, the prototype could be unpainted; a grey-blue finish would be quite the change from the standard black of existing NUC mini-PCs. Unfortunately, neither Intel nor Moreau have provided any other details about the prototype yet, other than revealing the following ports:
- 1x 2.5 Gbit Ethernet
- 1x DC input
- 2x HDMI
- 2x Thunderbolt 4
- 4x USB Type-A (various standards)
