Once again, Intel wants to prove that it’s continuously working on driver updates in order to improve the gaming performance of its graphics chipsets. In a corresponding blog post, Intel claims that the driver update version 6734 from April 8th provides noticeably better gaming performance for the Intel Arc 130V and the Arc 140V.
To support this claim, Intel has published gaming benchmarks that are embedded below and show the performance of the Intel Arc 140V with the new and old driver (version 6732) from April 2nd. Intel has tested nine games and determined that the update has increased the average frame rate by 10%. Purportedly, the average 1% low has even improved by 25%.
These tests were conducted with an MSI Claw 8 AI+ (from $999 at Best Buy) and an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V with a TDP of 17 watts. Games have been benchmarked at 1080p, medium settings and no XeSS upscaling. Intel just released these benchmark results, but the driver version 6734 is already outdated. But since the latest graphics driver (version 6739) primarily fixed some bugs, there shouldn’t be significant changes to performance.
It's not unusual for Intel to considerably improve the gaming performance of its GPUs via driver updates. In recent years, the company has been able to increase the frame rates in certain games by over 700% via new drivers. In many cases, this was possible due to originally poor optimization. Nevertheless, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ with Intel Lunar Lake is slowly becoming a more intriguing alternative to AMD Ryzen-powered gaming handhelds thanks to these updates.
