The Humane is expected to announce the Ai Pin later today, with the company already confirming as much on social media. In the meantime, The Verge has obtained pricing details, albeit only those for the US. For context, earlier reports alleged that the Humane Ai Pin would retail for upwards of US$100.
Supposedly, that rumour is far from the market, at least in terms of upfront costs. According to The Verge, Humane will launch the Ai Pin for US$699. However, the device requires a subscription to provide any functionality, which runs to US$24 per month. The website adds that this price also includes a T-Mobile cellular contract, plus access to Microsoft and OpenAI AI services. In other words, the Ai Pin will cost US$987 in the first year of ownership and US$288 thereafter.
For now, it is unclear whether Humane will offer the Ai Pin outside the US. Nonetheless, The Verge has learned that the magnet with which the Ai Pin secures to clothing serves as its battery too. While battery life estimates remain unknown for the time being, Humane will include two batteries with each Ai Pin, which suggests that one battery is not enough for a full day's usage. Presumably, Humane will provide full details about the Ai Pin during today's product launch.
