Huawei unveils plans to manufacture 1 billion devices per year in Europe
Huawei's less than voluntary exit from the telecommunications market is legend and multi-regional by now: for example, the 5G equipment provided to carriers in France is under governmental order to be ripped out by 2028.
Nevertheless, Deputy General Manager of the OEM's French division Minggang Zhang asserts that it has re-established trust in its hardware by liaising with the country's official IT systems security body (the Agence Nationale de la Sécurité des Systèmes d'Information, or ANSSI).
That might be part of the reason why Huawei has secured the go-ahead to construct its first international factory in Bas-Rhin, Brumath, located in the Alsace region of France. The executive indicated that it will incorporate sustainable practices that include the use of solar energy while also achieving high-volume production.
Huawei has yet to specify which industries or categories the estimated billion devices made per year once the facility is operational will serve. Then again, Zhang may have indicated that it might be used to "supply the entire European market" with devices that might be related to Huawei's EV smart systems and cloud services concerns. The OEM is said to invest as much as €200 million into the factory's completion.
