At VivaTech 2024, Honor unveiled a new four-level AI architecture, largely developed by Honor itself, which also offers a connection to cloud services, with Google's cloud services being used by default. The new AI features will be integrated into Honor's own version of Android, MagicOS.

Chinese hardware manufacturer Honor has unveiled a new 4-layer AI model at VivaTech 2024, Europe's largest IT tradeshow taking place in Paris from 22 to 25 May. Honor's four-layer AI architecture consists of a cross-device and cross-operating-system AI as the base layer (L1) and a platform-level AI (L2) built on top of it. The third layer (L3) is an application-level AI, and the final layer of this new AI technology (L4) is an interface to cloud AI services.

In detail, the 4 layers of the Honors AI architecture provide different functionalities. The base layer (L1) is intended to provide the foundation for an open AI ecosystem that can be implemented regardless of the device or operating system used. Computing power and services will be shared and used across devices, for example using a laptop keyboard to write on a smartphone, or using a smartphone as a webcam in a video conference on a laptop.

A second layer (L2) builds on this with a platform-level AI foundation that uses artificial intelligence to anticipate the user's desired actions and execute them in a personalised way. The second layer of Honor's AI architecture is designed as on-device AI, enabling things like automatic photo optimisation or machine translation of text.

"The third layer, application-level AI, will unleash a wave of innovative, generative AI applications that will revolutionise the user experience," explains Honor in its press release on the 4-layer AI model. The fourth and final layer (L4) is intended to provide an interface to cloud-based AI services, with Google Cloud being used by default. According to Honor, the focus is on protecting user privacy "to create a truly holistic and forward-thinking AI experience".

The new AI features are not just reserved for Honor's new smartphones, which have yet to be released: Honor's Android-based MagicOS 8.0, which will be released alongside the Honor 200 series on 12 June, will also be made available for older devices such as the Honor Magic V2 and Honor 90, according to the manufacturer. The Notebookcheck team will be on site at VivaTech 2024 to report on any further announcements.
