Honor MagicBook laptop set for an official reveal on April 19th
In celebration of the birthday for actor and brand ambassador Allen Ren, Huawei has proudly gifted him Honor's first unannounced laptop, the Honor Magicbook. The sly marketing move suggests that Honor will reveal more about its upcoming laptop during a press event come April 19th.
Ren has taken to social media and blogging site Weibo to thank Honor for the birthday present and to stress that it is a "special honor" to be the brand ambassador for the company's consumer products. The accompanying teaser image is essentially a poster with the TV actor standing in front of a stylized laptop to promote the impending reveal.
At least one unconfirmed photo showing off the unannounced Magicbook has already leaked. The picture suggests that we can expect narrow bezels and a 13- or 14-inch screen size to compete directly against the Dell XPS 13, HP Spectre 13, LG Gram 13, Microsoft Surface Laptop, and other popular Ultrabooks. An Honor smartphone can also be seen in the same picture to suggest that the laptop could be unveiled alongside the Honor 10 which is already confirmed for an April 19th reveal.
Although major Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi are best known for their smartphones, they have been slowly encroaching upon the laptop market with the MateBook and Mi Notebook Air series, respectively. The MateBook X and Mi Notebook Air are surprisingly decent enough to stand almost toe-to-toe with current flagships from seasoned brands like HP, Dell, and Lenovo and an Honor-branded laptop to combat the Xiaomi series is not completely out of the question. We wouldn't be surprised to see more mainstream detachables and convertibles from the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer should the MagicBook do well.
