Esslinger VexelLine test conclusion: Practical for home office & Co

The Esslinger VexelLine was not completely free of criticism in the test, but left a good impression overall. The height-adjustable desk can be quietly and electrically adjusted to the desired position and also reaches a considerable height of up to around 125 cm in the configuration we tested.

The integrated cable tray with direct access in the rear area proves to be practical in the fight against the usual desktop cable clutter, but also restricts the usable desk surface somewhat. The accessories offered by the manufacturer round off the options if required.

If you're looking for a height-adjustable desk, we don't think you'll go far wrong with this test candidate. However, there are also comparable solutions from various other manufacturers.

Pros

+ solid quality and stability
+ quiet height adjustment
+ memory slots for height settings
+ practical cable tray with direct access
+ optional accessories for ergonomic working

Cons

- access to cable tray costs work surface
- slight damage to the tabletop on the test product

Price and availability

The recommended retail price for the Esslinger VexelLine starts at €645.99. It is available directly from the manufacturer.

The height-adjustable desk is available in three sizes (140x80 cm, 160x80 cm and 180x80 cm), with a 2- or 3-stage frame and various color combinations of frame and table top.

There are many height-adjustable desks on the market. However, manufacturers from Germany are rare. Esslinger is one of these exceptions. We took a look at what the VexelLine desk from Esslinger can do and what it has to offer. As our review shows, it has quite a lot to offer.

Assembly: problem-free in under an hour

The Esslinger VexelLine is delivered in three large boxes. Assembly involves a good ten steps. First, the actual table and frame are assembled. To do this, the substructure is adapted to the respective size of the table top before the components are screwed under the table top step by step.

Once the table frame has been fitted to the top, it is the turn of the cable tray, which is supplied in a separate box. This can also be fitted in a few simple steps. The instructions are not always 100 percent clear, for example which exact screws should be used. All in all, however, with a little manual dexterity, the assembly works quite smoothly. The required tools are included in the scope of delivery.

The individual components and the height-adjustable desk as a whole make a high-quality impression. There is little to complain about in terms of quality. We only noticed one tiny nick on the edge of the tabletop, which would probably annoy a buyer and who might file a complaint or request a replacement for the tabletop. However, as this is at the back, it is not visually noticeable.

In practice: Raises up to 125 cm

After assembly, which can be completed in under an hour with a little skill and ideally two pairs of hands, you can start working at the height-adjustable desk. We tested the version with the 3-stage frame. The first time you try it out, you realize that you can raise it a long way. It only stops at 125 cm. This is already too high for adults of average height to work at - but it shows that the Esslinger VexelLine is also suitable for tall people.

Another thing that quickly becomes noticeable is the low noise level when raising and lowering the table top. The two motors are pleasantly quiet, so that nobody is disturbed, even in open-plan offices. The desk is quite stable overall - even at the highest setting and with castors (see below). On the standard configuration with the two sturdy foot struts and height-adjustable rubber feet, however, it is understandably even more stable.

The height adjustment is operated via the small control unit, which can be mounted either on the left or right. In addition to two arrow buttons for moving up and down, it also has four memory locations for individual desired heights. It also offers a USB-A/USB-C port.

The sitting reminder can also be useful. If desired, the desk can emit an acoustic signal or simply raise automatically when the previously set time (in predefined 15-minute increments) has elapsed and it is time to switch from a sitting to a standing position.

The integrated cable tray at the back of the desk is also practical. The rear section of the two-part desk top can be folded up for easier access. This allows power strips (see below) and all kinds of cables to be hidden under the tabletop. This ensures a clean setup, as all cables can be neatly routed to the back and then disappear into the slot. Alternatively, the cable tray can also be folded down under the desk to provide even better access.

A small disadvantage of this design is that a monitor holder, which Esslinger offers as an optional accessory, moves a few centimeters further forward as a result. The same applies to monitors standing directly on the desk. This means you lose some usable depth.

Accessories: Practical solutions for ergonomic working

There are numerous height-adjustable desks, some of which are cheaper than those from Esslinger. However, distinguishes the manufacturer, in addition to the solid quality and practical cable tray, is the comprehensive ecosystem for ergonomic working. In addition to the desk itself, the manufacturer also offers various accessories.

Depending on the area of use, the castors for €24.99 prove to be practical. They allow the desk to be moved freely through rooms and locked in place with the integrated brake. As part of our test, we used the Esslinger desk in our new YouTube studio. This made it easy to move from scene to scene. However, if you only need a stationary table for work and the like, you can of course do without it. Especially as the table naturally loses some of its stability on castors, but is still stable according to our practical impressions.

Esslinger power strip with USB

Esslinger power strip with USB

The Esslinger power strip is no less practical. This can be ordered for €69.99 in addition to the desk and can be stored in the cable tray at the back. So power is always within easy reach. In addition to the six AC sockets, three USB-A and one USB-C (up to 18 W) are also installed. Unfortunately, this is no longer quite up to date. Ultimately, however, any power strip from other manufacturers can of course be combined with the table and accommodated in the expansive cable tray.

On request, Esslinger also offers a monitor arm for one (€39.99) or two screens (€69.99). We tested the model for two monitors with VESA mounting. Here too, assembly was completed quite quickly.

The Esslinger dual monitor arm also makes a solid and quite stable impression, allows versatile alignment and thus brings up to two monitors into the field of vision. However, we would recommend it up to a maximum of 27 inches. In our opinion, the monitor mount is also more suitable for a one-off set-up and not for a flexible workflow with different positions and constantly changing screen orientations.
