At the Halo World Championship 2025 Community Stage, Halo community director Brian Jarrard wore a PlayStation t‑shirt while announcing that Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete Unreal Engine 5 remake of the 2001 Halo: Combat Evolved, will launch as a day‑one release on PlayStation 5 in 2026.

During the Community Stage of Halo World Championship 2025, in which Halo Studios revealed Halo: Campaign Evolved, community director Brian Jarrard donned a prominent PlayStation t-shirt and announced the series’ first steps at its multiplatform future, as Halo: Campaign Evolved will be releasing on the PlayStation 5 in 2026 as a day-one release.

During the event, Jarrard stated, “It’s a huge deal. It’s a long time coming. We’re just super excited to be able to welcome even more players now into the franchise we love, to fall in love with Halo the same way we all did 24 years ago.”

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete remake of the 2001 original Halo: Combat Evolved on Unreal Engine 5 with 4-player cross-platform co-op, allowing players on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation to experience the game with revamped visuals and gameplay improvements like smoother controls, refined movement mechanics, including sprinting, and overhauled sound design.

After four generations of console exclusivity, Halo is finally coming to PlayStation, driving the final nail in the coffin of the console wars.

Celebrating the dawn of a new era, Jarrard further added, “As a community guy, I know the Halo community is super excited to welcome in their friends as well. It’s just going to mean more Halo for everyone. It’s really a new era. Halo is on PlayStation going forward, starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved.”

In similar spirits, Halo Studios Executive Producer Damon Conn called Halo’s PS5 debut an “incredible” opportunity. He said, “What we want is for as many fans and players to be able to play the game as possible. To be on the Xbox Series X and S, PC, Steam, and PlayStation all at one time is a heck of a way to kick off the 25th anniversary.”

Xbox’s pivot to multiplatform releases started in early 2024 when Microsoft’s gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced that “just four games” from its first-party catalog would be coming to PlayStation, including Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Grounded.

Fast-forward to 2025, and numerous Xbox exclusive titles have arrived on PlayStation, including Helldivers 2, which has sold over 19 million copies to date, Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, Gears of War: Reloaded as a day-one PS5 title, and Forza Horizon 5, with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 scheduled for a December 8, 2025, release on the rival console.
