HP releases new budget 16-inch laptop with up to 20 hours battery life

HP has expanded its OmniBook 3 series with an even cheaper option. For context, the company released the OmniBook 3 16 earlier this year with the Snapdragon X X1P-26-100. As we discussed in our review, the laptop delivers strong CPU performance, low temperatures, and decent battery life for its affordable price tag (curr. $649 on Amazon).
By contrast, HP's new Snapdragon C (C1-10-100) variant starts at $599, including 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of UFS storage and a 1200p display. Alternatively, switching to a 256 GB SSD increases the laptop's price to $699. Meanwhile, a variant featuring 8 GB of RAM with a 256 GB SSD costs $769.
Other memory configurations include 128 GB of UFS storage and a 256 GB SSD with either 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Alternatively, one can configure up to a 512 GB SSD with or without added UFS storage. HP is selling four display options, too.
With that said, all are 1200p, 60 Hz and 300-nit IPS panels offering 62.5% sRGB colour space coverage and an anti-glare coating. As far as we can tell, HP has distinguished these panels from each other with touchscreen support and/or a micro-edge finish.
Moreover, HP offers keyboard backlighting as a $20 extra. By default, none of the OmniBook 3 16's keys are backlit, including its built-in number pad. As the image above shows, dual USB Type-A ports are on either side, with HDMI 2.1 and dual USB Type-C occupying the laptop's left-hand corner. Setting that aside, all variants ship with the same 3-cell and 41 Wh battery.
Supposedly, this battery achieves up to 20 hours of battery life when playing locally stored 1080p videos at 200 nits with the laptop's speakers set at 100% volume. All configurations default to Glacier Silver, except HP's starting $599 SKU with Mica Silver. Typically, Mica Silver, Starlit Blue, and Warm Gold carry a $10 surcharge over Glacier Silver.
